Age Grading & Combined Event Scoring

Age Grading is an adjustment for a performance (time, height or distance) based on age – the older you are, the bigger the adjustment. The adjustment, known as an Age Grade Factor, is multiplied by the performance to get an Age Graded Performance so all times, heights or distances for each event by athletes from 20 to over 100 years old can be compared to each other! The Age Graded Performance is the equivalent to what the athlete would have done when they were in their 20s.

Meet the Athletes

You have to try the impossible to achieve the possible. - Hermann Hesse To be successful you only need one chance! -Jesse Owens The Heinel family noticed my performance at the meetings of our community's athletes for the sports badge. In 1999 we intensified our sporting training sessions and so Dörfles-Esbach was able to emerge as the winner of the “The Sportiest Community” competition. This also improved my performance. In 2003, as a “new guy” in the M 52, I took part in the North Bavarian Championships in Neustadt for the first time and achieved two silver places in the 100 m and 200 m. From 2004 onwards I also took part in the Bavarian Championships. In 2006 I ventured to the first German championship in Aachen and was able to celebrate my first German championship title over 200 m in the M 55. In the same year I became German champion in the pentathlon in Ahlen. Through regular training I achieved good performance, so that I am regularly represented at the top of the German seniors' best list in the sprint distances and all-around competitions. Since 2006-2020 I have been in first place in the Bavarian best list in the sprint disciplines without interruption and in the top three in the long jump. 13 years after the first German championship title, I was able to celebrate the 30th repetition in Leinefelde in 2019. In my six previous participations in the European Championships in Slovenia 2008, Germany 2012 and Denmark 2017 as well as the World Championships in Australia 2016, Spain 2018 and Finland 2022, I was able to win 28 medals, including 5 world and 6 European championship titles. Through a starting community with TV Gunzenhausen and TG Schweinfurt, I can also take part in relays, which gives me great joy and camaraderie. In 2009 we became German champions in the M50 over 4x400 m with a Bavarian record of 3:59.97 minutes. We repeated this in 2012 in Erfurt and in 2017, 2018 and 2019 in Zella-Mehlis. In 2020 we won the 4x200 m indoor title in Erfurt. We won the 4x100 m title in Erding in 2022 and also achieved several silver and bronze places. We were also able to win some Bavarian titles over 4x100 m. My motivation is of course the competitions, I don't see these and the necessary training as a burden, but rather they are fun and joy for me, the "competitors" are only "opponents" during the race, the best should win, it's that simple. Through Sprint and strength training increases quality of life, health and vitality. I hope to stay healthy for a long time and be able to continue practicing this sport.

Karl Dorschner, GER - M72
