WMA Regional Championships welcome everyone.

Perceptions are often wrong. So many have been surprised, if not shocked, about the caliber of performances in Masters Athletics (aka Track & Field). People may overlook that we are not aspiring to compete in the Olympics and most of the athletes who did have given up our sport. The vast majority of us seek to enjoy ourselves, strive to exceed our athletic goals and, most importantly, experience life.

The reason I bring this up is to hopefully clarify that we have opportunities many overlook because of their paradigms. Opportunities to compete are far fewer than our younger counterparts. Quality opportunities are much rarer. Competitions run by World Masters Athletics (WMA) and their regions are these quality opportunities. They are also welcoming to athletes of all capabilities and a unique experience for most of us older athletes. The international camaraderie is incredible and competition environment is second to none. You don’t have to be an exceptional competitor to have a fantastic experience.

A great holiday

The next WMA organized competition is in Dunedin, New Zealand 20th – 27th January 2018. Have you ever been to New Zealand? Dunedin, like many areas in New Zealand, has dramatic landscape, great water activities, museums and much more.

Most of you will be glad you looked at masters competitions differently and considered competing at a WMA and WMA Regional Championship (so many have said they were).
