Age Grading & Combined Event Scoring

Age Grading is an adjustment for a performance (time, height or distance) based on age – the older you are, the bigger the adjustment. The adjustment, known as an Age Grade Factor, is multiplied by the performance to get an Age Graded Performance so all times, heights or distances for each event by athletes from 20 to over 100 years old can be compared to each other! The Age Graded Performance is the equivalent to what the athlete would have done when they were in their 20s.

Meet the Athletes

did masters sprints and jumps from 2002 to 2008 - then got too busy elsewhere. Visiting my son in Europe in September 2022 he asked what plans I had for when I turned 70 early the next year - so I thought I'd like to return to Masters athletics. Home from Europe in October '22, I sought out a coach, bought some throwing shoes and started to do Shot and Discus (which I had tried a little in my sprint/jump days and liked). I was very happy to manage to Shot 5kgs 10.5 metres on the last day of my 60s after 3.5 months training which was encouraging for the weight drop to 4kgs starting on the very next day. I still have so much to learn to become proficient and consistent but it is slowly coming about.
