Age Grading & Combined Event Scoring

Age Grading is an adjustment for a performance (time, height or distance) based on age – the older you are, the bigger the adjustment. The adjustment, known as an Age Grade Factor, is multiplied by the performance to get an Age Graded Performance so all times, heights or distances for each event by athletes from 20 to over 100 years old can be compared to each other! The Age Graded Performance is the equivalent to what the athlete would have done when they were in their 20s.

Meet the Athletes

Brian Morris – A Legacy in the Ring A second-generation Arizona thrower, Brian Morris made his mark early in his athletic career, capturing the 5A state championship in shot put while competing for Moon Valley High School. His exceptional performances ranked him among the top throwers in the nation. Building on his success, Brian went on to become the National Shot Put Champion at Glendale Community College in 1997. While his primary focus was shot put, his versatility in the throws was undeniable—he also delivered remarkable discus performances, finishing as the national runner-up that same year. Over his junior college career, he earned the prestigious title of four-time All-American and set both the shot put and discus records at GCC—records that still stand today. However, in late 1997, a career-ending injury forced Brian away from the sport. For nearly three decades, the ring remained a distant memory—until now. On February 8, 2025, Brian stepped back into competition, returning to the circle at GCC after a 28-year hiatus. At 50, his passion for throwing remains as strong as ever. His return to the sport carries even greater significance following the birth of his son, Brian Wade Morris Jr., on June 19, 2024. With his comeback, Brian hopes to not only reclaim his place in the ring but also inspire the next generation. The return of a Morris to the throws is just the beginning—his journey back serves as the foundation for continuing a family legacy in the sport. Reflecting on his return, Brian shares, “I honor my dad in returning and focus on what he taught me: ‘Inch by inch is a cinch… yard by yard is hard.’” With his father’s wisdom guiding him and his son watching, Brian is ready to embrace this next chapter—proving that true passion never fades, and champions are never truly finished.
