Age Grading & Combined Event Scoring

Age Grading is an adjustment for a performance (time, height or distance) based on age – the older you are, the bigger the adjustment. The adjustment, known as an Age Grade Factor, is multiplied by the performance to get an Age Graded Performance so all times, heights or distances for each event by athletes from 20 to over 100 years old can be compared to each other! The Age Graded Performance is the equivalent to what the athlete would have done when they were in their 20s.

Meet the Athletes

I found open T&F competition as a 24 year-old dad, 7 years removed from my last scholastic meet. At the time, I planned to train hard and be ready for Masters competition at 35. Then there were two more kids, a series of desk & travel jobs, and Achilles injuries from doing too much too soon... I gave up on track (again) and vanished for 10 years. Now I'm back because it called to me. Having just completed my first Masters Indoor season, I took all the knocks you would expect from not preparing and from trying to ramp up preparing really fast. Trying to be smarter this time around, but I'm up against my ego every training day ;-) For work, I coach both Masters and high school athletes. For fun, I read and study languages and volunteer in my kids' schools. Always eager to connect with, support, and assist other grown-ups who play sport for the love yet still *demand* to get better!
